Effect of pH and temperature on coagulation efficiency in a water treatment plant in North China

This research focused on the effect of water temperature and pH on coagulation efficiency in low turbidity water. The optimal dose of coagulant was determined. Simulated purification process, organic matter and turbidity removal capacity of aluminum chloride (PACl) were measured at turbidity, CODMn and UV254 parameters with different experimental conditions. The results showed that the ideal dose of PACl is 28 mg/L. The turbidity removal efficiency gradually increased with increasing water temperature in the range of 4°C to 18°C, while the removal of organic loads had little correlation with temperature. The effective pH range was 6.0 to 9.0, which had a greater effect on removing turbidity from organic loads.
